Apple has hired Patrick Pruniaux to work on its upcoming wearable product, iWatch. Pruniaux was previously working as sales VP of TAG Heuer, Swiss luxury watch brand. TAG Heuer is well known for its innovation in luxury watch industry. Famous watch lines of TAG Heuer are Formula One, Aquaracer, Link, Carrera, Monaco and Grand Carrera. Mobile and watch industry analysts are seeing this hiring as a significant development and as an indication of Apple's strategic vision to enter into luxury watch industry.
iWatch, is expected to be launched soon and Pruniaux with sales experience in luxury watch industry could be instrumental to capture maximum market share and strategic goals. For last one year, Apple has been aggressively hiring top talent for iWatch project. About a year ago, Apple hired Yves Saint Laurent, who has experience fashion industry experience. As we can see technological aspect of iWatch might not be big deal for Apple, but with such hirings Apple wants to sure that iWatch is fully equipped and powerful to excel vis-à-vis current designs and fashion trends of watch industry trends. After Steve Job's death, Apple has not come up with significant innovation. Therefore, Apple and CEO Tim Cook have a lot of high stacks in iWatch. Hiring top guns may help in execution of iWatch project but eventually it is vision and leadership which matters.
Google is going to be Apple's main competitor in wearable device industry. Last week, Google has made significant announcement regarding its Android wearable platform - ranging from release of Android Wear SDK to LG G watch and Samsung Gear Live. It seems Apple is already a little behind in race of wearable devices. We have been hearing about iWatch for more than a year and still we do not know exact timing of its release. On positive side, early release of Google smartwatch might be an opportunity for Apple to review its strategy and come up with something even better.
