Google I/O is developer's conference, annually held by Google. In this conference, Google puts forward its technological vision and makes announcements about products and projects to be launched in coming year. This year's Google I/O is starting today, 25 June 2014 at 9:00 AM PDT.
There are lots of rumors about what Google may announce. However, we can expect to hear announcement in following five areas of technology;
1. Internet of Things (IoT) - Nest Platform
Last year Google bought Nest Company for $3.2 billion. Nest is well known for making smoke alarms and thermostats. Based on Nest, Google wanted to develop its Internet of Things (IoT) technology, especially smart and automated appliances and home security.
2. Wearable Technology - Android Smart Watch
Google is actively working on Android Wear operating system for wearable devices. LG, and Motorola are Android Wear's official partners and are working on wearable watches, which could run on Android Wear OS. People are expecting more details of both wearable hardware and OS development. Google Glass is another big wearable thing from Google. It was introduced two years ago at $1500 for early adopters. Google may announce upgraded version of Google Glass at rather affordable price.
3. Internet TV
Google TV has not seen much success since its release in 2010. Since Google has not abandoned this project yet, we can expect strategy shift and some market readjustments to stay relevant in Internet TV market. There are rumors that Google may come up with TV OS and interface similar to Android TV, which would allow video streaming from Netflix, Hulu, Google Play etc.
4. Social Media - Google Plus
So far Google Plus has failed to capture social media share from its giant competitors i.e. Facebook, Twitter etc. Again Google would never abandon social media initiative and may make some vision adjustments to expand its social media user-base.
5. Android OS - New Version and/or Updates
Among other things, we may hear about upgrades of Android OS, Nexus smartphone coming in September 2014 and last but not least Google may announce its next Nexus tablet.
