There have been a bunch of virtual keyboards launched for iOS 8 in the past couple of months, but a newly launched app called Slated can serve as both a keyboard and a translator for the iPhone and iPad.
A new iOS 8 keyboard called Slated has launched, and it can translate text messages into 80 different languages. As someone types in, the translation for a particular language will show up in real-time and user can send the message in that language. The keyboard is just meant to be a translator, since there are no other special features included with it.
Talk to friends in another language, even if neither of you can speak it!
Slated is a keyboard extension - it can replace your keyboard in other apps, letting you converse in another language. And just by simply copying any text in that language, you'll see it translated back into yours. So you can and a friend can both type in a foreign language--even if it's foreign to both of you!
How to install the keyboard:
- Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards
- Add New Keyboard
- Choose Translation - Slated and enable Full Access*
The app is $2.99 at launch, though it will go back to its regular price of $4.99 eventually, but if you're interested in communicating with someone in real-time in their own language, it's a fairly small price to pay. Other apps, including Translator Keyboard, already offer this kind of functionality, but Slated seems to have really nailed the UI, and it works in many more languages at launch. The app is currently rolling out through the iTunes Store and can be downloaded from the following link.
